The theme of this year’s event was “Go green – Reduce your footprint and breastfeed your baby”. From September 28th to October 5th, Richmond Public Health and the Birth Centre held a variety of activities to recognize breastfeeding mothers and to increase awareness of the environmental benefits that choosing to breastfeed offers our community.
- September 28, nurses engaged the public with a display at Aberdeen Centre.
- September 29 – Richmond Hospital Birth Centre participated in the Quintessence Breastfeeding Challenge. At 11:00 pm 16 new mothers breastfed their babies.
- September 30 – many families stopped by the booth at the Steveston Farmers and Artisans Market for local apples, cookies, and a gift of a reusable shopping bag. They chatted with staff and students from Richmond Public Health and the Richmond Food Security Society.
- October 1 – 5 – VCH staff and volunteers were at a display in the Richmond Brighouse Library to inform the public of the sustainability and health benefits of breastfeeding.
We would like to thank our sponsors who supported our activities by providing door prizes and refreshments during the week, including Mother’s Choice Products, Marketplace IGA, Dollar Town, Awesome Nails, and Creative Cards & Gifts.
