Beginning this Friday, April 26th at 6 pm, four doors at Richmond Hospital will lock automatically overnight. Staff requiring after hours access should check their VCH ID cards to ensure they will provide access.

The change is being made to provide enhanced after-hours security to patients and staff in the Emergency and Medical Imaging Departments.

 Emergency Department

The following doors will be locked from 6:00PM to 7:00AM 7 days a week:

  • single black door next to Fast Track
  • double black doors next to the South Tower elevators
  • double black doors across from the Cast Clinic sliding doors

 Medical Imaging

The waiting room doors will be locked from 6:00PM to 8:00AM Monday – Friday, and 4:00PM to 8:00AM Saturday, Sunday and statutory holidays.

If you require after hours access to these areas, it will be automatically programmed on your VCH Photo ID, as long as it is an access capable electronic card. Your VCH Photo ID is access capable if there are numbers on the back. No further action on your part is required.

You can also find out if your VCH Photo ID card is access capable by trying it on any card reader. If you hear one or more beeps, your card is access capable and no further action is necessary.

If your VCH Photo ID is not access capable, you will need to obtain a new photo ID. You can go to the Security Office at Richmond Hospital (room 1427e) during photo ID hours, Mondays 12noon to 2:00PM, and from 8:30AM to 10:00AM on Wednesdays and Fridays to have your photo taken.  Please remember to bring a piece of government issued photo ID with you.
