Going the extra mile
A few months ago, Dr. Marty Jenkins, a radiologist at Richmond Hospital, got an urgent call to perform an emergency procedure on man suffering from kidney complications.
“It was over the weekend and they were moving the patient from the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) to our department,” Dr. Jenkins says. “The patient was in quite a bit of discomfort.”
And with this patient came Evelyn Plett, a registered nurse at the PACU, who had voluntarily come to help Dr. Jenkins take care of the patient.
“Because Evelyn was there, it made my job easier and she made it better for the patient who was pain-free,” he says. Because of the exceptional work Evelyn did that day, Dr. Jenkins nominated her for the People First Award.
“She went above and beyond her normal call of duty, going the extra mile,” he says. “She didn’t have to do this but she did and it made things a lot easier for me and the patient.”
