Join us for opening reception of photo exhibit
You are invited to join us and the City of Richmond on Friday evening at the opening of “Transitions,” a collection of seventeen photos that explore and depict the journeys of recovery through mental illness and problematic substance use.
In 2012, the Richmond Mental Health and Addictions program known as ‘Transitions’ successfully applied to the City of Richmond’s Public Art Program to develop a participatory art project that would engage the client voice. Over the course of a year, local artist Tiana Kaczor worked with adults accessing the services of Transitions and the Anne Vogel Clinic to explore and depict their individual journeys of recovery through mental illness and/or problematic substance use. Together, the artist and project participants produced a collection of seventeen photographic images evocative of those personal experiences.
The photographs will be exhibited at the Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate Richmond, from June 1-30, 2013. An opening reception will be held June 7th at 7pm in the same location and all VCH staff and members of the community are invited to attend.
Through a multidisciplinary team of substance use counselors, concurrent disorder clinicians, mental health clinicians and physicians, Transitions offers client-centred care to adults struggling with mental illness and/or problematic substance use. The physicians, social worker and substance use counselor at the Anne Vogel Clinic provide assessment, treatment and primary care for adults with opiate dependence. Both programs provide individual and group treatment on an outpatient basis.
