Renovated rehab gym open for service
Last week we celebrated the re-opening of the rehab gym on 3 South. 3 South is an acute medical ward with six cohorted beds for the treatment of acute stroke patients. The gym recently underwent an extensive renovation, which will improve the rehab team’s ability to give up to date, evidence based care to their patients.
Funds for the stroke rehabilitation facilities and equipment were provided through the generosity of donors at Richmond Hospital Foundation’s 2012 Starlight Gala and a special Leadership Challenge that evening, which resulted in donations totaling more than $165,000.
The renovations have allowed more efficient use of the available space, and have made it possible to utilize two new pieces of equipment: the NeuroGym and the Tilt Table – two state of the art pieces of equipment that provide advanced rehabilitation for stroke patients. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of our rehab staff and are happy to provide this improved workspace for their continuing efforts in providing quality care.
Thanks as well to Michael McAuley who sponsored this renovation through the regional Four Cornerstones project. Improved space utilization and equipment storage are key elements of the 4 Cornerstone Environmental Project. Staff have been trained in using the new equipment and are committed to ensuring that all equipment is cleaned between patient use as the proper cleaning and storage of patient equipment assists in the reduction and prevention of healthcare associated infections at Richmond Hospital.
