Carol’s compassion and technical skills are outstanding!

I am writing to ensure that you are aware that you have an outstanding Mammography Technologist (my apologies if I do not have the designation correct) named Carol working at the SMP Richmond Centre located at Richmond Hospital.  For the past 2 years, I have had the good fortune to have Carol do my mammograms, the most recent of which took place recently.

I have had regular mammograms for many years, and on occasion, I have needed to undergo further diagnostic testing and procedures to respond to an initial abnormal result.  Given my history, undergoing a mammogram brings up a fair amount of anxiety, although I suspect that this is the case for most women, regardless of previous results.  Another reason for my trepidation has been that in the past, the procedure has been quite physically uncomfortable and even painful at times.

As I mentioned, a year ago I had the extremely good fortune to have Carol do my mammogram for the first time, followed by another mammogram earlier this month.  The overall care experience provided by Carol was outstanding. Carol was warm, welcoming and genuine, which served immediately to reduce my anxiety. Carol treated me with respect and was very professional, and equally importantly, she treated me as a person – not a patient. Her attention to ‘humanizing’ our interaction and relating to me as a whole person and not just a set of breasts to be x-rayed, was hugely important in enhancing the quality of my care experience.

However, not only is Carol an expert at establishing a caring relationship within a very short period of time, but again, of equal importance, Carol’s technical skills are first rate.Carol approaches the task of performing a mammogram with expertise and confidence.  My mammogram experiences with Carol were virtually painless.

It was my intention to write last year, and sadly, I let a whole year slip by before I made it a priority to write this email. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to experience Carol’s outstanding care again recently, and I was reminded once more of my year old intention.  It has also come to my attention that several of my colleagues and friends have enjoyed a care experience by Carol, and not surprisingly, we all agree that she is special.  I made sure to let Carol know in person how much I valued and appreciated her skill as a health care provider.  However, as you can see from my signature, I also work in health care and one of my ongoing priorities is to ensure that my colleagues are providing the best care experiences for our clients. Additionally, I believe that it is extremely important to recognize and celebrate outstanding client care, and this email reflects my commitment to doing so.
