Healthy Competition: When two floors battle, the patient wins!

Two floors at Richmond Hospital “battle” each month for a trophy. It is not the Stanley Cup. It’s the monthly hand hygiene trophy! The cup is awarded to the acute in-patient unit with the highest hand hygiene audit results.

Since January 2013, two medical units at Richmond Hospital, 3 South and 3 North, have been battling for this cup! It has gone back and forth between the two units. One month the two units actually TIED and had to share the cup, each unit getting it for 15 days. Due to this back and forth duel for the hand hygiene trophy, a bit of a rivalry has naturally developed – all good natured fun!

As a result of the little rivalry, 3 North and 3 South have managed to find a way to make hand hygiene more interesting and exciting, leading to higher hand hygiene audit results. Every month both units wait expectantly to find out who takes the trophy!

The real winner? It’s our patients!!
