Volunteers brave the rain to help raise funds during Community Cares Day.

Record donations from caring community

More than $380,000 has been raised by the Chinese-Canadian community— a new record—in support of Richmond Hospital Foundation, thanks to the generous contributions from the community for the Foundation’s 6th Annual Community Cares Day, Paul Oei, Vice Chair, Richmond Hospital Foundation reported.

“We are truly grateful for the record support from the entire community for our Community Cares Day”, said Mr. Oei. “We continue to expand the reach of our event every year to raise awareness and much needed funds, and we surpassed all of our goals thanks to the outstanding contributions this year from volunteers and donors.”

Community Cares Day featured an exclusive two-hour national primetime special on Fairchild TV, segments on Talentvision TV, all-day radio broadcasts on Fairchild Radio (AM1470 & FM96.1) and CHMB AM1320, as well as partnerships with numerous Chinese print publications and the Richmond Review. Richmond Hospital Foundation volunteers hosted prominent supporter booths at Richmond Hospital, four local shopping malls (Aberdeen Centre, Richmond Centre, Ironwood Plaza and Lansdowne Centre) and braved the weather, enthusiastically waving signs at various outdoor locations to raise awareness. Chad Pederson and Jeffrey Chiu, co-chairs for the event, spearheaded this important initiative with more than 100 volunteers participating in this year’s Community Cares Day.

“People know that health care touches everyone, and as a result, the community continues to rally in greater numbers to help Richmond Hospital,” said Paul Oei, Honourary Chair for the event. “The donations received from our Community Cares Day will benefit our local medical teams, research and advanced technology at Richmond Hospital to help ensure we have the very best health care here for our community.”

Last year’s event raised over $330,000 in support of Richmond Hospital. For more than 25 years, Richmond Hospital Foundation has raised more than $40 million in support of quality health care in Richmond. Contributions in support of the Community Cares Day will be accepted until the end of October by phone at 604-244-5252, or online at www.richmondhospitalfoundation.com.
