Richmond ShakesOut

Shakeout II

Staff from across our community of care participated in the Great British Columbia ShakeOut Drill today at 10:17am, dropping, covering & holding on for 40 seconds.

They joined over 18 million people worldwide who were practicing at the same time how to protect themselves during an earthquake.

Many in Richmond also participated in the earthquake practice exercise immediately following ShakeOut. They joined with their teams for a short discussion as well as completing an Area Status Report to identify 2 items that they might require support with following an earthquake and then submitting the report to the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). The drill and exercise capped a week long campaign, called ready4real, designed to help staff ensure they are – indeed – ready for real:

  • We have prepared our families for an emergency– we have supplies and we know what we will do;

  • We know where our work emergency plans are kept, and we have a better idea of what is in them;

  • We know how to inform the Emergency Operation Centre of our status and how to request support; and

  • Our work areas have our most up to date contact information in case there is a real need for our support.

Thank you to all who made the exercise and campaign a success, including the Richmond leadership team, Emergency Management committees, managers, and all who took the time to participate.
