Health care a focus at annual Richmond Homeless Connect
An estimated 75 people were treated to hospitality and healthcare at Richmond Homeless Connect in mid-October.
Held at St. Alban’s Anglican Church on Oct. 16, the event offered one-stop shopping for services ranging from health care to breakfast and bike tune-ups to people–mainly homeless and low income–who may otherwise go without.
The medical care portion on the event was provided by Richmond Hospital Emergency Department physicians and medical students, including Dr. Nancy Austin, Dr. Steve Fedder, Dr. Patrick Cunniffe and Dr. Richard Chan. Richmond Hospital’s entire team of medical students, under the supervision of Dr. Austin, also participated.
During the day-long event, participants were able to access warm clothing (much of it donated through the RH Auxiliary Thrift shop) , hygiene kits, flu shots, new underwear and socks (donated by the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunrise) dental hygiene kits, medical care, bike maintenance, hair cuts, along with a myriad of services to support individuals.
Thank you to everyone who made the 6th annual Homeless Connect such a success.
