Letters from former patients speak to the high quality care that they received at Richmond Hospital.

Appreciative of your “efficiency and humanity”

In September last, I had surgery in Richmond Hospital and I stayed in a ward on the 6th Floor (north, I believe). The surgery carried out by Dr. Sampath went extremely well, although I was admitted a second time and needing a blood transfusion in your hospital.

I am writing to you because I want to commend your staff, I felt that not only was I receiving good and efficient care, but that (mostly) I was treated as a person and time was taken when it allowed to have a brief conversation and share a laugh. This is important as it is all too easy to experience the loss of identity in a hospital and the feeling that one’s body is not one’s own. I have written to the staff of my ward to let them know how much I appreciate their efficiency and their humanity.

Two things, though, I would like to run past you. The second time I was admitted was to the Emergency Department. I spent six or more hours in the waiting room, along with other potential patients, waiting to be assessed by a doctor. I understand that it was an exceptionally busy night and apologies were made several times for the wait as there were no available beds. When I was given a bed, I experienced a very uncomfortable night – the blankets, which were really flannel sheets – did not supply sufficient coverage for a comfortable night. I spent the equivalent of two days in the Emergency area.

The second thing I would like to mention is that the visitor/patient lounge is not a comfortable area. I understand that renovations have included lounges on other floors and it is my hope that these will extend to the sixth floor….

So, all in all, my stay was a good one with good outcomes. I am well on my way to recovery thanks to Dr. Sampath and your wonderful, caring and efficient staff. Thank you.

“Remarkable treatment” elicits sincere thanks

I am currently under the care and treatment of Dr. Yun and his staff, following surgery in Richmond Hospital. I have been in and around the hospital, on and off, for the past six months and must tell you how remarkable my treatment has been. Every last technician, nurse, volunteer and employee from all areas have been thorough, precise, caring and pleasant.

Our family sincerely thanks Richmond Hospital for the fabulous care that I have received. Extra special kudos goes out to Dr. Yun and his team.
