Richmond Firefighters, the design expertise of Master Gardener Gary Lake, and the generosity of Rod’s Building Supply’s came together of Feb. 28 to construct a new garden at Richmond Hospital. Richmond Garden Club members will be planting and tending the garden over the coming year.

A garden grows from community spirit

Thanks to a variety of community-based volunteers, patients of the Cancer Care Centre at Richmond Hospital will enjoy a bloomin’ good spring.

At the behest of Brenda Goossen, social worker, Oncology, Belinda Boyd, leader, Community Engagement, did a consultation with patients about their care and treatment, including their likes, dislikes what could be improved.  “The garden idea sprang from this,” Boyd said.

InsetOn Saturday, February 28, a new garden began to take shape behind the Cancer Care Centre due to the volunteer efforts of Richmond Firefighters Local 1286 Charitable Society members, the design expertise of Master Gardener Gary Lake, and Rod’s Building Supply’s generous donation of all required construction materials.

The collective green thumbs of the Richmond Garden Club will also be put to use over the coming two months to plant and tend the garden over the next year.

Wow, so happy to read this good news story (any chance that this initiative could include a compost bin?)
I am grateful for the reminder that each of us is blooming, in their personal cycle, in each season.
