RMHT is on-the-move
Spring 2016 marked a time of change for staff and clients of the Richmond Adult and Older Adult Mental Health Teams (RMHT) and Richmond Consumer & Friends Society when, in April, services moved from their office No. 3 Road to two temporary locations while the design and renovation process for a new location at 7671 Alderbridge Way got underway.
The need for relocation arose last summer when VCH Richmond was notified that RMHT had to move out of their existing space.
“The team and RCFC have been upbeat, patient and understanding throughout the process. They took the relocation news in stride, despite having called No. 3 Road home since 1999, and began preparing clients and families right away,” said Natalie McCarthy, director, Mental Health, Substance Use and Residential Care. “I know the move was a lot of work, but it was well-organized, went very smoothly, and clients were supported throughout.”
Moving day in two parts
Moving day arrived on Monday, April 18th for the Older Adult Mental Health Team and over the weekend of April 30th for the Adult Mental Health Team and Richmond Consumer & Friends Society.
Older Adult Mental Health Team services are now being delivered from Suite 600 – 8100 Granville Avenue, where the team shares space with Transitions, Mental Health and Substance Use Central Intake and the Richmond Eating Disorders Program. The new Older Adult Mental Health phone numberis : 604.244.5486 (fax: 604.233.5656).
The Richmond Adult Mental Health Team and Richmond Consumer & Friends Society are now located at #150 – 5811 Cedarbridge Way. The phone and fax numbers for their services have not changed.
A newly renovated building
Despite the temporary relocation, redevelopment of a new location for adult and older adult mental health and substance use services brings with it an exciting opportunity to design interior spaces to be more welcoming and client and family-centred.
“To achieve this, we invited stakeholders, staff, clients and families to participate in an April 19 space-planning session,” said Karen Barclay, program manager, Community Mental Health & Substance Use Services. “The clients who attended shared many good ideas and interesting perspectives, and we’re looking forward to integrating their ideas into the final design of our new Alderbridge Way home. We look forward to continued opportunities to collaborate throughout the process.”
Richmond Adult and Older Adult Mental Health Services and the Richmond Consumer & Friends Society look forward to moving into their new home in early 2017.
