A couple of weeks ago, a grateful patient sent a letter to VCH, thanking the health care team that took care of her during a visit to Vancouver General Hospital. Here’s a transcription of the letter:
Dear Sir or Madam;
In preparation for my carotid surgery, I attended pre admission at the Vancouver General Hospital in January. I wish to let you know that I felt my whole over four hour experience during this process was excellent and very positive. I was most impressed with the efficiency as well as the kindness and caring demonstrated by all the doctors, nurses and staff that were attending to me and helping me through this unfamiliar process for me. They exercised patience, empathy and understanding as well as answering and discussing any questions or concerns that I presented.
I am not totally aware of the full names of all the people who helped me through the process but it would be wonderful if they could be advised and also a copy of this letter of appreciation could be placed on their personnel files:
Lana Burgess – my 1st contact & many helpful telephone conversations (pre admission clinic scheduling clerk)
Rolando Linares – ECG technician (cardiology technologist)
Cathie Cousins – registered nurse
Dr. Lynn Martin – anesthesiologist
Bertha Choy – blood and urine lab technician
Helen Chou – EEG technician (diagnostic neurophysiology technologist)In addition, I would like to mention that due to having peripheral neuropathy my mobility is rather limited. This issue was addressed immediately and I was allowed to have the chest x-ray done in emergency, rather than needing to walk further. This was a very kind and practical solution for my needs.
I have worked with the public in customer service positions most of my life and I appreciate that many times the “workers” get “bad press.” I hope this letter will help to reinforce the appreciative side of the balance.
