New medical director of Medical Perioperative Services
I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Iain Mackie as medical director, medical perioperative services, for Vancouver Acute Services. In this role, Iain is responsible for developing a full-spectrum program involving pre- and post-operative medical care of surgical patients. His responsibilities cover the overall strategic planning, direction, goals and objectives of the VA Medical Perioperative Program, as well as quality assurance, budgets, policy development, educational planning and research. Iain will work closely with both our physician-in-chief, Dr. Meneilly, and our surgeon-in-chief, Dr. Masri, as well as operations directors, department and division heads, physicians and staff, as deemed appropriate to shape the direction of all facets of the Medical Perioperative Program.
In addition to this new role, Iain is currently a clinical professor of medicine in the UBC Division of General Internal Medicine, a director of the HIV Clinical Care Program at Vancouver Acute and a member of the Internal Medicine Examination Board for the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. He has been an active member of the medical staff in the Department of Medicine, Division of Internal Medicine at Vancouver Acute since 1996 and he has won numerous teaching awards at UWO, UBC and VA.
When taking a break from his clinical and academic responsibilities, Iain can be found with a camera around his neck, enjoying the great outdoors on skiis, in hiking boots or in a kayak.
