Prostate Centre honoured by Lieutenant Governor’s visit
On May 31, Her Honour, The Honourable Judith Guichon Lieutenant Governor of B.C. made a special visit to the Vancouver Prostate Centre (VPC) to tour one the largest prostate cancer-specific research and treatment centres in the world.
The tour – led by Dr. Larry Goldenberg, CM, OBC, Founding Director of the VPC and Head, Department of Urological Sciences at UBC and VGH, and Dr. Artem Cherkasov, Associate Professor, Department of Urological Sciences at UBC and VGH – showcased the innovative work of the VPC. Highlights of the tour also included donor-funded areas of research through VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation.
The VPC is a National Centre of Excellence and a designated Centre of Excellence for Commercialization and Research – one of 11 in Canada – whose purpose is to accelerate new drug treatments into human trials, promote growth and investment in biotechnology and improve patient care and outcomes for Canadians.
We hope that the Lieutenant Governor was impressed and inspired by the work of the VPC and the uniqueness of its program; which spans the spectrum of translational research from discovery to clinical treatment of prostate and other cancers.
