$1.3-million donation expands Renal Unit at VGH
A major renovation of the Renal Unit at VGH is underway, thanks to a generous $1.3-million donation from Luigi and Elisa Aquilini. Luigi founded Vancouver-based company Aquilini Investment Group.
On May 30, our VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation held a dedication luncheon for the Aquilini family to celebrate the naming of our new Luigi and Elisa Aquilini Renal Dialysis Centre. The event unveiled the naming and plaque of the new Centre located in the Jim Pattison Pavilion at VGH.
This important donation will benefit patients across B.C. who suffer from kidney disease by expanding and remodelling the current dialysis unit at VGH. The renovation will also better equip medical staff to treat a growing demand of patients.
Benefits of the expansion project include:
- Increase in the number of beds from 30 to 42;
- 12 new dialysis stations in the Hemodialysis Unit, allowing for more timely treatment;
- Installation of a new state-of-the-art water purification system to ensure patients continue to get the safest and most effective hemodialysis possible;
- Relocation of the Independent Dialysis Centre to provide support and training to more patients who are able to dialyze at home.
VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation thanks generous donors like the Aqulini family for helping us ensure excellence in patient care.
