Leighanne MacKenzie new operations director of medicine

We are extremely pleased to announce that Leighanne MacKenzie will be joining our Vancouver Community of Care as operations director, medicine, on October 21, 2013. Leighanne’s portfolio will include all of our inpatient medicine units on the VGH campus as well as the Renal Program.

As a registered nurse by profession, Leighanne brings with her over 30 years of health care experience, which has included key leadership and education roles. Her clinical experience has included medicine, emergency, trauma, oncology, and neurosciences.  Most recently Leighanne worked as director of women’s & children’s health system, acute medicine, family medicine, access & flow and telehealth in the William Osler Health System in Brampton, Ontario. Immediately prior to this she was director of emergency services, trauma care and neurosciences at VIHA. In addition, Leighanne has held teaching positions with BCIT, the University of Toronto, the University of Victoria, Langara Community College and Lethbridge Community College.

Leighanne has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Lethbridge, a Masters of Education in Administrative Leadership from SFU and a Graduate Certificate in Health Systems Leadership & Research from RRU.

We are excited to have Leighanne join our team and have no doubt that her wealth of clinical, education, and leadership experience will be a tremendous asset to both our acute and community care settings.

Please join us in welcoming Leighanne to VCH-Vancouver.

We would also like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to Suk Ko and Kerri Berryman for providing interim coverage to the operational side of the medicine portfolio for the past five months.  Suk will transition with Leighanne over her first two weeks; Kerri will continue to provide operational support to the Renal Program in the interim as Leighanne’s primary focus will be on the medicine portfolio initially.
