The Winter Olympics came to Purdy Pavilion
On Friday February 21, 2014, Purdy Pavilion held its own Winter Olympics and it was an overwhelming success! Almost everyone participated in the six events on each of four floors and those that couldn’t, cheered and clapped for those that could. The competitors were timed for speed, individually or as a team and also there was an event which was judged for style and skill. The participation was amazing, with the winners and runners up receiving gold, silver or bronze medals at the award ceremonies.
Owning the podium
The medals were handed out in the garden room in the afternoon. Rolf, Activity Worker (AW), gave the opening speech about how the 2014 Winter Olympics got started at Purdy and then Donna, AW gave very entertaining and interesting trivia questions about the Winter Olympics. The winners of the medals were announced by a fellow resident, and they were presented with prizes and a token medal.
We were served a beautiful cake, donated by a resident’s family, and hot chocolate at the awards ceremony. Purdy’s Winter Olympics was a huge success and hopefully we can do it again on biennial years coinciding with the summer or winter Olympics.
A special thanks!
A special thank you to all the volunteers, who achieved gold metal status from all, for their generosity, kindness, and hard work for the Purdy Winter Olympics. The Rehab Team and Activity Workers did an incredible job organizing and running this event, plus getting almost every resident active in the competition. It was an event that was enjoyed by all. Thanks to everyone who made the Purdy Winter Olympics 2014 happen.
