Coast Capital raises another $208,000 for mental health research
Our VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation recently recognized Coast Capital Savings for their generous donation of $208,000 for mental health research. The funds were raised through the credit union’s 12th Annual Charity Golf Tournament.
Coast Capital has been a longstanding supporter of mental health, raising more than $1.5 million through the tournament to support the establishment of the BC Leadership Chair in Depression Research and the Coast Capital Savings Depression Research Fund.
Coast Capital has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the community by mobilizing awareness about mental health and supporting leading-edge research that will continue to have positive impacts on individuals and families affected by mental illness for generations to come. To date, Coast Capital’s commitment has contributed to 10 mental health research projects, ranging from brain imaging and genetic-based studies on mood disorders, to the evaluation of new psychological treatments for depression.
“One in five Canadians will personally experience a mental illness in their lifetime,” says Tracy Redies, president & CEO, Coast Capital Savings. “With those numbers, it is safe to say that mental illness touches all of us in some way. This is why I believe we all have a role to play in breaking the stigma that exists around mental illness, funding research to better understand it and investing in the tools and methods necessary to treat it.”
The efforts of Coast Capital have profoundly impacted ongoing work at our VGH and UBC Hospitals, offering hope and healing to thousands of British Columbians suffering from mental illness.
