Patient awake for live-streamed heart surgery
On October 27, 2014 a team of B.C. cardiologists, including the VGH Cardiology Department’s Dr. David Wood, demonstrated what they believe is the future of minimally invasive heart valve replacement. Their patient, 83-year old Sister Theresa Stickley was comfortable awake throughout the procedure and spoke to reporters from her bed.
“I’m feeling pretty good. I had a little pressure in the chest, that’s all,” said Sister Stickley after the procedure was successfully completed.
