Door-crasher shoe event in the DTES

The Downtown Community Health Centre (DCHC) is an inner city clinic located in Vancouver’s vibrant Downtown Eastside. A wide range of services are delivered to marginalized populations including primary care and mental health and addiction services.

Over the past few weeks, clinic staff collected nearly five hundred pairs of gently used shoes and boots for the first ever DCHC Winter Shoe Spectacular shoe drive. The donated footwear was redistributed over a two-day period from the clinic.

With a door-crashing lineup rivaling that of another legendary shoe event in the Downtown Eastside, more than two hundred eager DCHC clients and community members attended last week’s event, most walking away with two pairs of shoes and a bonus pair of socks.

Event organizers and volunteers provided by Vancouver Coastal Health were truly knocked off their feet by the appreciative enthusiasm of the attendees.
