A special present for Eric

Thanks to ground-breaking brain surgery, Eric Dorchester celebrated Christmas at home with family. The VGH patient was the first in Canada to undergo MRI-guided neurosurgical ablation to target his brain tumour. The minimally invasive surgery meant Eric was walking out of hospital just 24 hours later and celebrating the holiday season with loved ones.

You can watch the full Global story, including interviews with Eric and Dr. Brian Toyota, here.

This is great news! I’m so happy to hear that is option is available. I have a really good friend who was diagnosed with brainstem glioma tumour in March 2013. He’s been through number of different treatments both in Germany and Canada and MRI results to-date show that the tumour has not increased.
Can this surgery be performed on tumours in the stem? Does particular stage or size matter?
Any information provided would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kuljeet

Hi Kuljeet – These are clinical questions best answered by someone with the right medical expertise. The only individual qualified to respond would be Dr. Toyota. We recommend contacting him.
