VIDEO: VGH is going to the dogs
Angus is more than dog-gone cute. He’s our first and only infection-detecting canine at VGH.
At just 10 months old, the English Springer Spaniel is training to help us detect C. difficile and make VGH safer for patients and staff.
C. difficile is a bacterium that causes symptoms ranging from diarrhea to life-threatening inflammation of the colon. People who acquire a C. difficile infection (CDI) experience watery diarrhea, abdominal tenderness and pain, loss of appetite and other symptoms. It can be deadly, as Angus’s handler Teresa Zurberg can attest. Now, she’s training Angus to detect C. difficile.
