In their own words
Regardless of age or background, VCH-Vancouver Community of Care volunteers report personal, heartfelt benefits from their time spent assisting patients, residents, clients and their families. Here’s what some of our volunteers have to say about their experiences:
- “Expanding your social network and giving back to your community make you feel good about yourself.” – Dale
- “I have learned about patience, compassion, positivity and resiliency.” – Erika
- “I will continue to contribute to the community, not only to learn, but also to help others.” – Celia
- “Seeing patients and their loved ones go through physical and emotional pain, frustration and loss has changed my values in life and taught me compassion.” – Yulia
- “This has been one of the most enriching and rewarding choices I have ever made. ”– John

Thank a volunteer today!
We thank all of our 1,300 VCH-Vancouver volunteers. They are involved in a variety of roles including holding newborns, spending time with patients in palliative care, assisting people of all ages at immunization clinics, offering support to families in the Emergency Department and playing bingo with seniors. Volunteers are united by a common commitment to our patients, residents and clients. They are an integral part of our health care system and are very much appreciated.
April 12 to 18 is National Volunteer Week. Please take a moment to say thank you to a volunteer.
