The new Vancouver Community Research website is here! Watch the video!

Barb Eddy, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Marvin Wesenberg, Community Respiratory Therapist, had an idea for a research project. They wanted to know the best way to encourage early detection of COPD in Downtown Eastside residents, but they didn’t know how to get started or who to consult, like experienced researcher Dr Siavash Jafari.

“The initial difficulty in doing this research was…I don’t even know where to start,” says Wesenberg.

Eddy and Wesenberg went on to successfully complete their research benefiting clients who live in the Downtown Eastside, but wish they had had the tools, information and resources available on the new Vancouver Community Research website to assist them.

Says Eddy, “If we’d have had access to the new website at the time when we were exploring how to get started and what we would need to conduct our research from start to finish, it would have made the process so much easier.”

That’s why Vancouver Community is launching the new Research website to support staff, physicians and researchers in conducting research that fosters innovation and promotes best practices for our clients.

“The new Vancouver Community Research website was created to provide step-by-step information on how to begin a research project and the support and resources available,” says Dr Rolando Barrios, Senior Medical Director for Vancouver Community. “We also wanted to create the opportunity for staff to partner with experienced researchers at the very start of the project or study.”

Barrios goes on to say, “This website will help facilitate research that will not only be relevant, but have a higher impact on community and client care.”
