VGH to have upgraded workstations
As you can imagine, it is not an easy assignment to coordinate workstation upgrades in VGH’s busy Jim Pattison Operating Rooms, a department that runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. But for Joan Chockolik, Project Manager, Leanne Movold, VGH Operating Room Coordinator, and the collective Desktop Transformation Project (DTP) team, they were up to the challenge!
The OR consists of twenty-two operating rooms, each containing three workstations as well as peripheral workstations and offices. “With hundreds of details and logistics to consider, this was not just about replacing a computer, it was about maintaining flow and working around the patient and surgical staff,” said Leanne Movold.
The DTP team, including HSSBC and IBM, worked together for five months and strategized a plan in advance of the deployment. “The response from the DTP team was phenomenal,” Leanne said. “They were flexible and they really worked with us to ensure the computer upgrades were as seamless as possible.” This meant scheduling the deployment as early as 6:30 AM over the Christmas holidays when the operating rooms were slightly less busy. “This was a huge multi-departmental team effort consisting of clinical staff, leadership and the DTP team to create a successful computer deployment,” said Joan Chocholik.
DTP is replacing 25,000 workstations with new Windows 7 computers across VCH, PHC and PHSA. With 2,000 workstations upgraded, 60 per cent of deployment is now complete. These workstation upgrades are laying a foundation for better IT solutions in the future, as well as providing enhanced performance and security today.
Congratulations to the DTP team on their great work so far!
