Play VGH Carpool Bingo to win!
Even if you’re not a candidate for carpooling, you can help friends and colleagues get to know a neighbour or two who commute to VGH. Carpool Bingo rewards you for your well-connected nature – even if you walk, bike, take transit or just can’t fit another person in your vehicle.
Take the Fraser Valley as an example. Walking or cycling to VGH from beyond Langley seems rather unlikely, and a transit commute requires several transfers. As a result, the ‘car’ would be a prevalent option. However, of the 99 VCH staff living in the Fraser Valley and working across the VGH campus, none has signed up.
Maybe they don’t know how flexible carpooling can be once a couple of neighbours have exchanged email or phone contacts and made a plan that suits them?
Maybe they don’t want to save time by using the HOV lanes? (Probably not.)
Maybe they don’t want to save money on gas and wear and tear on their vehicles? (Probably not.)
Cue in Carpool Bingo – a tool that you (dear reader) can use to make the connections that other, (less extroverted people) might not.
Download a VGH Carpool Bingo card or pick one up at the VGH Commuter Centre and be the maven that you are! Submit your card with the information of at least two colleagues interested in carpooling before 12 pm on March 1 and you could win a coffee card.
Thank you and good luck to your colleagues.
Writer’s note: While writing this in a coffee shop, a PHSA employee stopped me to ask how he knew me. (It was from a cycling session – and no, he hasn’t started cycling yet from the North Shore.) So I gave him a sign-up sheet and a Bingo Card. And the connections grow…
