“I was finally released from the bondage”
It all began at the Eye Care Centre.
And after only 26 hours at VGH, the patient was “released from the bondage” of a painful neurologic disorder that can lead to vision loss.
Here’s her story, in her own words:
“I would like to thank all the wonderful people at VGH that treated me April 8/9 2016.
I was first seen by Dr. Claire Sheldon at the Eye Care Centre on Friday at 1:30 pm. She immediately determined that I needed to be seen by a neurologist. She made the right contacts and sent me through to ER, where I was quickly admitted to the B ward. Within minutes, I was seen by Dr. McKnight and CT scans were ordered. During my wait, I had a visit from Dr. Teal and his team of students and I ultimately made it into the care of Dr. Robert Carruthers. His team wasted no time in performing a lumbar puncture to confirm that I was suffering from Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension. They consulted with me, answered all my questions and got me started on a treatment plan. And after only 26 hours of reaching the VGH complex, I was finally released from the bondage that had held me captive for almost 4 years.
Words cannot express my gratitude to these great people that have done so much for me. Not only did they help me medically, but they did so with humanity and great care. I will forever be in their debt. We are blessed to have a great facility like VGH in our community.”
