Basketball: Building Team Spirit at Purdy Pavilion
On Saturday, April 23, staff from VCH Purdy Pavilion and UBCH FMO, Pharmacy, Receiving, Paladin and Crothall joined together in the 1st Annual Purdy Basketball game held at the new Wesbrook Community Centre at UBC.
Team White represented Purdy Staff and Team Black represented FMO, Pharmacy, Receiving, Paladin and Crothall Staff. Team Black was victorious in a close game outscoring Team White 66 – 65 when time ran out.
The energy that the players brought to the court quickly spread throughout the spectators and all had a great afternoon.
Organized by Purdy RN Pakia Ganapathi, the event attracted 24 players, numerous volunteers and fans for a turnout of close to 75 people. Pakia’s dedication to ensuring the success of this event was evident. The extras were appreciated by all and we thank Minerva’s Pizza (Kerrisdale) and Sodexo for their generous support. Staff on days off came out to support their colleagues, bringing along spouses and children.
Purdy staff work closely together in a busy environment on a day to day basis looking after the care needs of not only the elderly but also younger people with complex health issues. To be able to see staff come out in a social setting with their families, friends and colleagues cheering them on was great! The enthusiasm of all in attendance was infectious. Events such as these are an important part of work life and this event sets the path for us to organize future events such as this.
