Two lucky winners say “I do” to $6,600 towards new adventures!

Summer suddenly became sunnier for two lucky 50/50 ‘Won’ Vancouver Staff Lottery winners! Our July winners are Susan Balfour-Hunt, Clinical Coordinator with the Palliative Care Access Line, and Derek Cheng, Compensation and Classification Associate with Employee Engagement.

Congratulations to our two lucky winners who received around $6,600 each.

What does winning the 50/50 lottery mean to you?

Great timing – just in time for summer holidays! I’m also happy to contribute to the VGH Foundation: every bit counts!

What are you going to spend your winnings on?

Does anyone watch PBS? I have been watching the long boats of Viking River Cruises drifting along the waters of Europe with art, culture and food experiences for years. An adventure like this has been on my sometime-in-the-future bucket list. Thanks to VCH Foundation 50/50, I will be traveling along the Elbe River next year living a bucket list dream: Cheers to VCH 50/50!

What does winning the 50/50 lottery mean to you?

When I first heard about the 50/50, I had to get a ticket. I’d be lying if I said I bought a ticket solely for the charitable donation; I definitely hoped to win a prize. Plus the odds of winning are quite high in comparison to a regular lottery even if it’s just one ticket. It’s also a huge bonus that my ticket money not only goes to a good cause, but it also makes two people very happy every month. A win-win in my books!

What are you going to spend your winnings on?

When I got the news that I had won, I thought I was in a dream. I got the news on Friday afternoon and it didn’t really feel real until Tuesday of the following week. This couldn’t haven’t had happened at a more opportune time as I’ll be getting married in September. My fiancé was ecstatic when I broke the news to her. If she wasn’t thinking about the honeymoon then I’m sure she is now. As for what the money is going towards, I’ll be donating some of it, banking some of it for our honeymoon, but most of it will be saved for starting our new married life.

What would you do with your winnings? There are two (or three) chances to win every month (depending on the corresponding pay periods) and you only need to sign up once to participate. The more tickets sold means the larger the winnings for staff and more funding for the Foundation. To date, $116,000 has been donated thanks to our staff.
