Philanthropy powers Cardiovascular Centre of Excellence renovation at UBC Hospital

Thanks to a generous donation by Jack and Elly Senior, renovations were recently completed at UBC Hospital’s Cardiovascular Centre of Excellence.  The renovations consolidate a number of cardiology clinics at the campus hospital and are the first step in a much larger UBC Hospital renewal project to strengthen surgical services at UBC Hospital and Vancouver General Hospital (VGH).

A celebration event, hosted by Dr. Saul Isserow, was held on Monday to showcase the completed facilities and featured remarks from CBC Radio’s Rick Cluff.

Guests also commented on the remarkable art found throughout the new space, donated by artists and collectors.

“We don’t know when we or someone we love will need a place like this, but we are grateful to know that such a place exists in our community,” Cluff noted. “I marvel at the quality of care here and what this extraordinary cardiology team does every day.”

VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation President and CEO Barbara Grantham concurred, adding that the financial support of the Seniors is a testament to their confidence in the cardiology teams and programs available at our health care centres. “Through philanthropy we have been able to support transformation in health care in many ways, including this centre,” Grantham said. “Thanks to Jack and Elly Senior, thousands of British Columbians will benefit from this very location and receive top of the line treatment from expert cardiology staff.”
