There is nothing better than getting a winning message about the Won Vancouver 50/50 Staff Lottery. Sarbjit Pharwaha and Novalyn Solon got their good news phone call, and each won more than $3400! Who will win on March 31st? It might be you…if you have a ticket! One ticket keeps you in every draw for the rest of the 2016/17 lottery year. But please note that if you signed up before October 2016 last year, it doesn’t roll over. You need to reapply every fiscal year. So as of October 2016, if you haven’t reapplied, you don’t have a ticket or a chance to win up to $6500!

Where does the other half of the “50” go? It goes to the VGH Foundation, to support the funding of equipment for our hospitals and community-based programs. Proceeds from the 2015-16 Won Vancouver 50/50 Staff Lottery meant a contribution of $163,384 to the Foundation! In turn, the Foundation purchased four ventilators for use at VGH and George Pearson Centre.

What does winning the 50/50 lottery mean to you?

Novalyn Solon – won $3500.00 P03

More than anything else, I am surprised since I forgot all about it. I entered the 50/50 because I saw my colleague fill out the form and she said she was going to drop it off so I filled out a form, and the rest is history. It is timely, though, since we are having a wedding reception this summer so that amount will go towards that event. It is also delightful and comforting to know that through this the patients that I take care of will also benefit from this. That somehow I contributed something for better facilities and equipment, to improve patient care.  The picture is of my partner and me during our shoot that we’re going to use for our reception.

I have never won anything this big in my life and I consider it a gift from God when I most need it. My brother’s wedding is coming up in May and it will REALLY help in that. I am sooooo happy and still can’t believe I won! And that the lottery is for a good cause is even better. It’s a win-win!

The next 50/50 Staff Lottery is March 31!

What would you do with your winnings? There are two (or three) chances to win every month (depending on the corresponding pay periods) and you only need to sign up once to participate. The more tickets sold means the larger the winnings for staff and more funding for the Foundation.
