Thank you Dr. Awesome and team!
When Terry Hagen’s day unexpectedly led to admission at VGH, both he and his wife Linda decided to look on the bright side. Here’s why:
My husband, Terrence (Terry) Hagen, was admitted to VGH on Sunday, August 13th, 2017 due to hematoma complications from his right hip replacement surgery, which was done on August 1st, plus a concern for low blood pressure symptoms that were most likely related to some of the meds he has taken since experiencing a stroke from a car accident in 2008; he was T-boned in a controlled intersection by a young driver.
The care we received over the past three days in Emergency as well as through the Orthopaedic On Call, Dr. [Agrawal], and Terry’s surgeon, Dr. Clive Duncan, was excellent, as always; but the care we received from members of the 11th floor care team was absolutely exceptional!
Some of the stand-outs were nurses Sang [Cho] and Alice [Yan], Drs. Sharmistha Das, Ben Waterson and Scott Stewart (a.k.a. Dr. Awesome) and [social worker] Harry Segal. All of these people are extremely caring and personable plus they know how to actively listen and have wonderful senses of appropriate humour; all traits that Terry and I find invaluable when we are making our way through medical issues. We appreciate all they did for us and feel greatly blessed to have been placed in their care.
All the people named above made a tremendously positive difference to our world so, through this e-mail to you, we want to officially acknowledge them and thank them for all they did for us. If there is a VGH/Coastal Health employee recognition program please let us know as we would like to recognize them that way as well.
In closing; our experience over the past three days in VGH brought the following quote to mind. We share it with you as a tribute to the 11th floor team.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead
Kindest regards,
Linda Hagen
