Yoga flashmob “moves” people to take part
Community and connectedness are two things that promote health and well-being – and that theme was loud and clear at the kick-off today of My Health My Community. Acroyoga Vancity helped host the event which invited members of the public to experience acro/yoga.
Our health and well-being are closely linked to what we eat, where we live, what we do and how we play. Understanding exactly how these factors impact one another is at the heart of My Health My Community, a new web-based health and wellness survey, launching today, developed by Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), Fraser Health (FH) and the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s eHealth Strategy Office.
“My Health My Community is an opportunity for us to learn how our lifestyles, our neighborhoods and our environment all come together to affect overall health and well-being,” says Dr. Jat Sandhu, regional director of public health surveillance at VCH. “This survey is incredibly valuable because it will enable us to share the most up-to-date health and lifestyle information with local governments, health care planners and community stakeholders and help them shape policies, programs and community services that lead to better health. Having better information will allow for better decision making and greater accountability for our investments in health promotion and disease prevention initiatives.”
My Health My Community aims to collect survey responses from at least two per cent of the population aged 18 and older living in the VCH and FH regions.
