Auxiliary announces 2013 donations

Unfortunately, Christa Schneider, president of the Auxiliary, is unable to be here today so you are all stuck with me . . . again!

First of all, I want to thank the Auxilians for coming to this Christmas Tea which has become a tradition here at the hospital. Would all of you please stand and be recognized by staff. Thank you for your acts of kindness.

Although the Christmas Tea has changed over the years, it is still a great opportunity for all workers, whether paid of unpaid, here at the hospital to mingle with each other as part of the Richmond Community of Care family. We all work together for patient care and comfort.

Our Auxiliary members work throughout the hospital in Surgical Day Care, Emergency Department, Cancer Care Clinic, Flower Care, Healthy Heart Program, Maternity Ice Packs and Special Services, as well as the Gift Shop, the Minoru Tuck Shop and the Lottery Booth.

The Christmas Tea provides a great opportunity for the Richmond Hospital /Healthcare Auxiliary to present a promissory note to the Chief Operating Officer of Richmond. This year, the amount is $200,000.

During the past year, the Auxiliary has provided funding for music therapy in Psychiatry, Oncology, Palliative Care, Richmond Lions Manor, Minoru Residence, and Mental Health for a total of $110, 700. The Auxiliary also funds Recreational Therapy in Richmond Lions Manor and Minoru Residence for a total of $35,000. For the perinatal loss program, we donate $1,350. We also cover the maintenance and management of the Richmond Lions Manor Bus and the Minoru Residence bus which is approximately $7,000 each for a total of $14,000. The Auxiliary also offers three bursaries to three students in a health related field for a total of $3,000.

The total amount that we donate to various programs is $163,050, plus the promissory note of $200,000.

Although we have not received the final “wish list”, we know we will be giving $30,000 to re-vamp the two rooms in the hospital – one on 6 North and the other on 3 North.

The Richmond Hospital /Healthcare Auxiliary, through the Thrift Store, Gift Shop and Flower Arranging, Tuck Shop at Minoru Residence and the Lottery Booth has raised over $363,000 this year. The Thrift Store in Steveston brings in the bulk of our money and I would like to have the Auxiliary members from the Thrift Store please stand.

Would Ursula and Suriya please come forward? These two women run the very successful Thrift Shop.

On behalf of the Richmond Hospital/Healthcare Auxiliary Board and all it’s members, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and good health, contentment and peace for 2014.
