Meet Mary Crable
Patient Care Coordinator
Neurosciences Program, Vancouver General Hospital
How long have you worked at VCH?
For six years.
Your VCH contribution. Tell us what you do at VCH in one sentence.
I spend most of the day balancing appropriate discharges and admissions to the neuroscience program, and ensuring nurses feel confident about the care they are providing to patients and families. Sometimes I just help people find a clear surface — I run decluttering contests, with the fabulous “Decluttering is Sexy” Barbie as the prize.
One thing that we might be surprised to find out about you?
I love grunge music and have seen Alice in Chains (minus Layne Staley, of course, RIP) twice.
Favorite hobby?
That’s tough—either reading or planning dinner parties.
Three things you always have in your fridge?
Tillamook sharp cheddar cheese, leftovers, and homemade jam.
What makes you happy?
Portland, my fiance, my pet rodents Pearl and Blossom, and discovering another 19th century writer I haven’t read.
Most healthy habit?
I sleep. A lot.
Favourite vacation spot or place you’ve visited?
Astoria, Oregon has a beautiful natural setting, great food, lots of vintage shopping, and amazing architecture.
What coworkers say about Mary:
“It’s always fun working with her.”
