31 years at VCH and working as an RN since 1977.
Tell us what you do at VCH in one or two sentences:
I coordinate and facilitate patient care activities and flow between surgical daycare/OR/and PAR. I also coordinate the staffing and scheduling of all 3 units. This is my 2nd year as a peer nurse immunizer, I promote the uptake of flu vaccines on my unit immunizing all staff in my area, including the surgeons.
What’s your favourite thing about your work?
Being able to share my knowledge and provide leadership to support the staff.
How does your work contribute to the VCH True North goals?
Providing the best possible care for our surgical patients and families.
One thing we might be surprised to learn about you:
We have a family log cabin on Hollyburn Mountain where I love to go and spend time without a phone, electricity and plumbing! It is about a 20 min drive from North Van and another 20 min to hike in.
Who is somebody that you consider a major role model in your life?
Not one, but many of the leadership team I have worked with at Lions Gate Hospital over the years.
Who or what inspires you?
The great group of people I work with every day inspires me.
Most healthy habit:
Daily vitamins and eating lots of fruits and vegetables daily, also getting a flu shot every year!
If an actor or actress played you in a movie, who would it be?
Hmm, maybe Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra as I was nicknamed Cleo by one of the surgeons years ago. Some of the older staff still call me Cleo!
