Meet Sally Dusenbury

Position: Volunteer Programs Coordinator
Home Care Services, Sunshine Coast

How long have you worked at VCH?
I’ve been with the organization for 23 years, since starting on December 6th 1988. Now I will be retiring to make time for gardening, travel and my grandchildren. I’m going to miss serving the clients and working with the volunteers because I truly love my job!

What would you say your biggest contribution is? Tell us what you do in one sentence.
My job is to interview and screen volunteers. We recruit volunteers to help with our various programs, which provide services to elderly and disabled adults. Some of these positions include volunteer drivers, friendly visitors, telephone tree (reassuring phone calls), grocery shopping, and meals on wheels (food delivery).

What makes you happy?
I love to help people. The best feeling is hearing someone say “thank you”, since you know you’ve made a difference in someone’s life.

What’s your favourite hobby?
I’d have to say fishing in Jervis Inlet and gardening – petunias are my favourite flower!

Tell us something that makes you unique:
My husband and I have six children; we raised five our six kids together, and now have fifteen grandchildren.

Which three items will you always have in your fridge?
I’ll always have: Fresca & cranberry juice concoctions, plain yogurt, and varieties Mexican food!

What is your favourite vacation spot?
Although I’m from Southern California, I’d have to say anywhere on the Sunshine Coast!
We often go to Catherine Lake, since we have a trailer at that camping site.
