The next ASF is coming up on May 9
The Next All Staff Forum (ASF) is on May 9th from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. with the topic of: The Changing Face of Caregiving. You won’t want to miss this, as we will have panel members from across One Vancouver who will discuss how caregiving has changed over the course of their careers and what changes they see coming in the future.
Meet one of our panelists: George Scotton

Before taking on the role of VCH Director of Safety and Prevention in February, George Scotton would tell you he’s seen many changes over his career with VCH and in Mental Health and Substance Use services for Vancouver Community.
Starting out as a psychiatric nurse in the 80’s at Riverview Hospital, George has always been passionate about helping people with MHSU challenges, as evidenced in working many years in direct client service, including the DTES, before taking on manager and then director roles with VCH.
“The impact of substance use has increased so much since I started —substances were always a factor, but these days they’re a factor in almost every encounter. But we’ve seen positive change too. People are more compassionate and understanding now about the underlying issues that drive addiction.”
George enjoys being a mentor for the next generation of providers and will continue to apply his vast client care experience in his current role with Safety and Prevention.

You’re invited – Following the All-Staff Forum on May 9th, we will have a special viewing of a short film by a local filmmaker, David Fine. David is dedicating his latest work to the nurses, physicians and staff at VGH as a show of gratitude for saving his wife’s (Alison Snowden) life. Please join us at 3p.m. in the theatre for this very special screening.
