Lab staff transfers to PHSA tomorrow

On September 14th, more than 2000 lab staff from Fraser Health, Providence Health Care and Vancouver Coastal Health will transfer their employment to the Provincial Health Services Authority, marking the completion of transfers into the Lower Mainland Laboratory Medicine and Pathology Services department.

While PHSA is the single employer for all Lab staff working in sites throughout the Lower Mainland and coastal communities, there are no physical moves or changes in the way services are provided.

In August 2009, Laboratory Services was one of several Lower Mainland health authority services identified for consolidation. Since then, Lab staff, leaders and clinicians across FH, PHSA, PHC and VCH have worked together to ensure patients benefit from increased efficiencies, better access and reduced duplication.

Completing the staff transfers is a significant milestone in the integration efforts for the Lower Mainland Laboratory Medicine and Pathology Services department.  Lab staff have worked diligently over the past three years to ensure Laboratory Services support seamless, efficient service delivery on behalf of the health organizations in the Lower Mainland.
