New heart rhythm lead physician appointed

We are very pleased to announce that Dr Andrew Krahn has accepted the new role as Lead Physician for Heart Rhythm Services (including electrophysiology and device implants) in the Regional Cardiac Program. This new position will work in partnership with site and regional leaders to ensure the cardiac program’s goals and objectives are achieved by developing, implementing and evaluating quality improvement initiatives and supporting evidence-based practice across our region.

Dr. Krahn is a Professor in the Division of Cardiology at the University of British Columbia. He received his MD from the University of Manitoba. Current research interests include investigation of genetic causes of arrhythmias, causes of loss of consciousness and implantable arrhythmia device monitoring. Dr. Krahn has research funded by the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Institute of Health Research. He has published 237 papers and 254 abstracts in peer-reviewed journals. He is the Deputy Editor of the Canadian Journal of Cardiology, and sits on the Editorial Board of Heart Rhythm and the Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology.

Dr. Krahn is a member of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Council, and the Scientific Program Chair for the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress (2012 and 2013). He has recently relocated to UBC in Vancouver as the Sauder Family Chair and Chief of Cardiology, and the Paul Brunes Chair in Heart rhythm Disorders. His major clinical interest is in the inherited heart rhythms and arrhythmia device management. Dr Krahn will be establishing a Provincial Inherited Arrhythmia Clinic based out of St Paul’s Hospital.
