Heart health promotion: What works for women?

More women in Canada die from heart disease and stroke than all forms of cancer put together. Preventing cardiovascular disease could save thousands of women’s lives and improve their quality of life.

Health care providers, managers, policy makers, and researchers are invited to attend a day-long Women’s Heart Health Summit, hosted by BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre, to discuss and advance a gendered approach to heart health promotion that considers the needs both among and between populations of women.

The aims of the summit are to:

  • share knowledge about the prevalence of heart disease in BC women and the implications for primary and secondary prevention;
  • share insights and experiences about a gendered approach to heart health promotion for women; and
  • identify opportunities for collaboration to improve heart health promotion for women in BC.

About the Summit
The summit is part of a PHSA/Population Health-funded project with BC Women’s to bring a gender and cultural lens to heart health promotion strategies. The project aims to identify best practices that are relevant and sensitive to the unique needs of women. This knowledge-sharing event will facilitate networking and new opportunities for working together across sectors. The project team invites all who are interested in contributing to our learning journey to improve the health of women.
