Maintaining strong leadership – Mary Ackenhusen, interim CFO

Early last month, I shared the news that Duncan Campbell had tendered his resignation as Chief Financial Officer and VP – Systems Development and Performance for Vancouver Coastal Health to commence a new and challenging journey in Alberta.

As the recruitment of a permanent Chief Financial Officer (CFO) continues, I am pleased to announce that Mary Ackenhusen will take on the responsibilities of CFO and VP of Systems Development and Performance on March 25th.

Mary is no stranger to VCH or executive leadership in complex, corporate environments. A graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Master of Business Administration program and the West Virginia University’s Industrial Engineering masters and undergraduate programs, Mary joined VCH in 2007 as Chief Operating Officer for Coastal. Prior to that, she spent several years as Vice President of Corporate Support & Facilities at Fraser Health. In that role, Mary oversaw support areas such as facilities, housekeeping, food services and security. Her career also includes a position as director of Quality and Operations at INSEAD, an international business school based in Fontainebleau, France, overseeing all support operations including IMIS. Rounding out her experience, she was a plant manager for a computer company, having responsibility for production, scheduling and purchasing.

In accepting this interim appointment, Mary will step away from her current role as Chief Operating Officer for Vancouver. To maintain strong leadership across the Vancouver Community of Care during this time, I have asked Vivian Eliopoulos and Joanne Bezzubetz to take on leadership for the Vancouver Acute and Vancouver Community portfolios respectively. Together they bring a wealth of experience and commitment to the roles and I encourage you to support them in their expanded capacity.

Please join me in welcoming Mary Ackenhusen to the role of interim Chief Financial Officer and VP – Systems Development and Performance for VCH, as well as Vivian Eliopoulos and Joanne Bezzubetz for accepting the leadership challenges in Vancouver.
