Patient feels prepared for surgery

Hello,

I am writing to praise the services of OASIS, the integrated arthritis care program of Vancouver Coastal Health.

I am an otherwise healthy individual with osteoarthritis and my doctor recommended me to OASIS. The receptionist worked with determination and speed to arrange the earliest possible date for me to see the team, so that I was able to access a cancelled appointment. Within an hour and a half I was seen by an occupational therapist, a physiotherapist and a nurse. Each assessed and gave useful advice on management of my arthritis. I was particularly impressed by how each built on the recommendations of the others, so that I left with a very comprehensive outlook. Adding to this was the role of the unit manager, who was present for all three consultations as a way to ensure excellence of practice.

I will be having surgery and the care I received greatly added to my ability to prepare myself so that I can the best possible results. I left with techniques for increased mobility and pain management prior to surgery, and a much stronger sense of what lies ahead. This integrated approach was an example of excellent use of health care funding.

To whom it may concern:

Compliments to Dr. McDermid during my pre-surgical screening on how he was very thorough with my medications that I was taking to make sure that my request of complete anesthesia during my surgery will not have any adverse effects. The most important of all is to have an anesthesia that will not make me violently ill to my stomach.

This was passed on to Dr. Ripply which was very gracious during my operation with making sure that I was calm for my blood pressure at the moment of surgery went through the roof! Again, thank you for listening in giving me something that did not make me sick in my belly after the fact!

With much appreciation,

Editor’s note: the surgeon was Dr. Jenni Smith

LGH patient wants to thank “friendly” staff

Just wanted to compliment all the staff in the E-Ray department on the great job they are doing.
I was there to-day and found a real friendly staff. They all were informative and kind.
Thanks for making my visit pleasant.

Head injury patient “will forever be grateful”

Dear Vancouver Coastal Health Customer Care Representative,

I just wanted to send a quick note of thanks to acknowledge Emergency Care Registered Nurse Colin at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Sechelt. On the early morning of Saturday March 9th, 2013 I received treatment from Colin after a fall while visiting with friends at their cabin in Pender Harbour. I sustained a head injury that resulted in receiving 10 stitches to the back of my head.  That was my first “injury” and experience receiving care in a hospital Emergency Room and did I ever get lucky with getting Colin to care for me.  He was absolutely wonderful to me. He was compassionate, professional, and very kind.  My husband **** and I will forever be grateful.
