On March 26, Pemberton Emergency Department began a welcome five-week renovation and moved to a temporary home in the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU), a high-tech hospital on wheels that is parked next to the Health Centre. You might remember the MMU provided care for athletes during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Whistler at the Athletes Village.

By using the MMU during the renovation, all services normally performed within the ER will be able to continued without the disruption, noise or dust that comes with construction. As well, the staff is getting to experience the capabilities of using this amazing provincial asset.

Prior to moving back into the renovated Pemberton Health Centre, all staff will be working in the unit and will have had the opportunity for a full orientation with the MMU staff. The medical staff — including physicians, nurses, x-ray and lab staff — also participated in scenarios preparing them to use their new space and the equipment within the MMU.
