Maintaining healthy diets for our patients

 

DSC05706Two hundred and fifteen registered dietitians from across BC participated in the 8th annual Dietetics in Action event “Nutrition and GI Disease – Building Knowledge and Practice for the Dietitian” that was held at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) on April 19.

Dietitians working in acute care, residential care, community, licensing and food service administration participated in this action-packed day of education, research sharing and networking. Highlights from the day included:

  • GI Disorders and Current therapies for IBD and IBS presented by Dr Hin Hin Ko, Clinical Assistant Professor, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology UBC
  • Dietary Management of GI Disorders presented by Elena Tejedor, RD (VGH)
  • Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) Project by Stephen Parker, RN and Jaki Thornhill, RD (SPH)
  • Fibre, Fruit and Vegetables: the Canadian Context, presented by Dr Susan Barr, Professor Food, Nutrition and Health, UBC
  • Experience Sharing Panel; Celiac Disease presented by Mavis Friesen, Desiree Nielson, RD and Preeti Vekaria, RD
  •  Research Focus: 12 poster presentations were on display highlighting research and experience sharing by dietitians from across VCH and PHC
