CEO sets the stage for Clinical and Systems Transformation at the True North Forum

Over 170 staff joined our True North Forum on Monday – in person and by webcast – to learn about initiatives that exemplify our goal of innovating for sustainability. Did you miss the forum? Here are some highlights of the presentations, along with links to the archived webcast.

Welcome

Watch the opening comments (skip to 00:01:13) from one of our board members, Victoria Withers. She spoke of her background in technology and how the Clinical and Systems Transformation (CST) initiative will help us make a quantum leap in how we provide health care.

President and CEO, Dr. David Ostrow sets the stage for our Clinical and Systems Transformation initiative.

Vision for clinical and systems transformation

Dr. David Ostrow, president and CEO, set the stage for CST over the next five years. Watch the webcast (00:06:14) to see the video he shared about empathy (some of you may want tissues close by!) and to hear his ask of all of us: “We need to find a way to marry the very human side of our work with the advancements in technology in order to succeed… We’re not just going to be putting in a computer system. We’re going to be changing the way that we do work, and changing that way for the better.” Our CST leadership team, including Team IBM, answered questions during a panel session. Lots of thoughtful questions were asked – too many to answer during the time designated at the forum. Watch for updates in future VCH News articles or Up for Discussion blog posts.

Award recipients

Check out this week’s spotlight, and watch the webcast (01:09:50), to celebrate your colleagues who were recognized with People First awards for going above and beyond at VCH. CRNBC Nursing Excellence award recipients (01:24:40) were also celebrated during the forum.

Pecha Kucha

The final four presentations were in the style of Pecha Kucha. Intrigued? Each presenter spoke as 20 eye-catching images flashed for 20 seconds each. Jat Sandhu, Linda Dempster, Sunny Mak and Cam Brine shared their messages using this innovative approach:

  • My Health My Community (01:34:17) – Learn about a new online health and wellness planning tool.
  • Designing for quality (01:41:39) – When health care professionals partner with design experts, patients and clients benefit.
  • Patient food waste: the elimination challenge (01:48:50) – Find out how we’ve reduced our food waste from 40 per cent to 19 per cent.
  • The survey says (01:56:03) – The next People First safety and engagement survey is coming in June. It will only take 10 – 15 minutes of your time, and VCH wants to hear from you.

What did you think of the forum?
