STEPUP 2013: Education put into action

On April 30th 2013, almost three hundred physical therapists and rehabilitation assistants from across VCH, PHA and

PHSA met for the annual STEPUP education day at Vancouver General Hospital.  In the tradition of inclusiveness, STEPUP was also Telehealthed to more remote communities of VCH so all could have the opportunity to participate.

practice. It also provides an opportunity for Physical Therapists and Rehabilitation Assistants to network and learn from each other, building a strong community of practice. The day was opened with an inspirational keynote address by Rick Hansen, followed by two other plenary session and 15 concurrent sessions presented by innovators, researchers and leaders in physical therapy. The topics covered cutting edge research to hands on clinical applications in the populations of pediatrics to geriatrics. Through annual events such as STEPUP,

VCH is able to develop the best physical therapists and rehabilitation assistants, thereby providing the best care and promoting better health for our communities. This allows VCH to work towards the true north goal of putting people first.

For those who were unable to attend this exciting day, many sessions were recorded and will be made available. Our physical therapy community looks forward to STEPUP 2014 and welcomes any ideas for next year’s event.  If you have any questions about this event or ideas for next years STEPUP please contact: Rosalyn Jones,  Email: Rosalyn.jones@vch.ca, Ph: 778 870 7634
