New HIM and Labs results and reports: July 24

575678_473560212723402_1497202667_nBeginning on July 24th, Health Information Management (HIM) transcribed reports from FHA sites, including Burnaby Hospital, Delta Hospital, Eagle Ridge Hospital, Langley Memorial Hospital, Peace Arch Hospital, and Royal Columbian Hospital as well as Queen’s Park Care Centre, Victoria Heights, and Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services Administration, will go out via Excelleris.

During the week of August 25th, Excelleris will begin distributing results from PHSA, VCH, PHC, and FHA labs. All results previously distributed by Medinet will be distributed instead by Excelleris as of this date.

Excelleris will help us increase the number of reports sent electronically, feeding patient electronic medical records and supporting the goal of interoperability between clinical systems in the region. More timely and accurate delivery of results and reports using electronic channels will significantly enhance the quality of care our patients receive.

Electronic delivery will also help us reduce paper use in the health care system. Using less paper in the delivery of patient results will contribute significantly to HA environmental objectives by protecting our forests and reducing overall carbon emissions.

The goal is to have 90% of all Lower Mainland Labs, HIM, and Medical Imaging reports distributed electronically, direct to clinician electronic medical records (EMRs), by the end of 2014.

Today, reports and results are sent to community-based providers from many different sources. A centralized distribution point allows us to set specific delivery standards and provides an audit trail to ensure the right results get to the right provider.
